Mentor Capital Consultants, Inc. (Mentor-Cap), 2000 – 2002

MentorCap’s purpose was to look for breakthrough ideas or companies that I could help fund using Investor Direct Offerings. MentorCap also developed specialized software used to simplify the process for companies filing and selling Investor Direct Offerings.

MentorCap led fundraising efforts for two companies and was over-subscribed for both offerings. In addition, as founder and CEO of MentorCap, I also raised $2.8 million for MentorCap. (see below)

MentorCap’s Three Fundraising Projects:

JOMY Safety Ladders  

A Direct Public Offering: Closed an over-subscribed $1 million offering in less than nine weeks from the start of fundraising.

AeroGrow International, Inc.

Raised $5 million through four Investor Direct Offerings. $2.5 million raised through three rounds of Reg. D- 506 offerings, one Intrastate – Direct Public Offering for $2.5 million.

Mentor Capital Consultants, Inc.

Raised $2.8 million from three Investor Direct Offerings — two tranches of Reg D 506 and one Direct Public offering.
 

In June of 2002, MentorCap and all employees were merged into what was considered a far larger business opportunity, AeroGrow International, Inc. AeroGrow, all totaled, raised $32 million dollars, went public on the NASDAQ, and grew from zero to $87 million in three years before I stepped down as CEO and Chairman.
